PineWood Derby 2013

The boys participated in the PineWood Derby on Saturday for Cub Scouts.

The boys went for an Army theme with their cars this year and Tanner won the Armed Forces Award!

 Our Cub Master did a race for non-cub scouts as well.  Hunter was thrilled that he was able to make and race a car this year!

MozART

We took another trip to San Diego to go to a Mozart Concert for Kids.  Mozart was there and he spoke about his life and his music.  The San Diego Symphony orchestra would play the music he talked about.  The kids enjoyed it and it was a great way to expose kids to the symphony and Mozart.  Julie took the big kids to the Symphony...

After the concert, we headed to the New Children's Museum also in downtown San Diego.  It was a children's art museum with lots of hands on opportunities.  The kids had a great time!

Baptism, Book Club, and Baroque

A Double Braydon and Braden Baptism

One of our favorite cousins (Braydon) and one of our favorite friends (Braden) got baptized on Saturday.  It was a wonderful service with lots of friends and family.  We are so proud of these two young men for making such and important decision.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Book Club

The boys had fun discussing this classic book.  We got into some deep discussion, or as deep as it gets for 9 year old boys, about courage and doing what's right.  We also painted Lion pictures, made Turkish Delight (which is actually pretty good)...

 and played towel sledding in the backyard.  I wanted to do ice block races, but didn't make it to the store to get the ice blocks.  This was just as fun though and less messy!

Baroque Opening Day at Knott's Berry Farm

School is back in-Hurray!  We are starting off this semester with the Baroque period where we will focus on Rembrandt, Bach, and the science of Sir Isaac Newton.  We got to meet Sir Isaac Newton and  he taught us about his 3 laws of motion.  

 After meeting Mr. Newton, we got to go to Knott's Berry Farm and learn even more about him and his laws of motion!  We even got to test out a few of the laws by going on "experiments" that were fast and thrilling!

 Knott's puts on a great field trip for $12 where we have a guide who teaches us the scientific principles behind a ride, and then we get to go on it!  There was an older kids group who got to go on the major roller coasters, and a younger kids group who spent a good amount of time in Camp Snoopy.  Luckily I got to hang out with the younger kids so I didn't get to show everyone how weak my stomach is-Lucy's steamboat was enough for me!  It was nice to have some one-on-one time with Hunter.

We had some extra time at the end of the tour, so our guide let us go on the train which had nothing to do with physics or Newton, but was still fun, and a Knott's classic! Stick 'em up!
