Tur-duc-hen

On Sunday night, Ladd and I hosted our 3rd Annual Cook Family Christmas Dinner. All Ladd has been talking about since he heard about it on the radio, is tur-duc-hen. It is a New Orleans specialty. It is a turkey, stuffed with a duck, then stuffed with a chicken. It sounded disgusting to me! Nevertheless, that is all he wanted for Christmas. Ladd thought it would be easy for me to make and printed a recipe for me. I took one look at it and when I had never even heard of some of the tools needed to prepare such a dish, I trashed the recipe and ordered a frozen one from cajongrocer.com. We served it to my family and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Ladd said it was the best turkey dinner he had ever eaten- I am glad he enjoyed his present!
We had a nice evening with my family opening presents (my boys were spoiled once again!) and catching up with everyone. We attempted to go look at the Christmas lights on Thoroughbred as we've done in the past, but it did not work out so well. Between a three year old (my cousin Brenda's son) and my two boys, they all had other needs (sleep, bathroom, and hunger) which were more important than Christmas lights. Better luck next year...
