A Few of Our Favorite Summer Things...

Learning about another Culture...

This summer it was Kenya. We read stories about Kenya, had a potluck of Kenyan food, and made a new friend. Shelley, our new friend, works for a non profit called Friends of Yimbo. Yimbo is a small village in Kenya where the people do not have very much. Shelley visited Yimbo this summer with a goal to provide school uniforms for all the kids in Yimbo. Trust me, a school uniform means a lot to these kids! Last year the Friends of Yimbo built a library at the school! In an effort to help the kids in Kenya, the boys and I made "Dinners-to-go" and sold them to family members. We earned enough to buy 5 school uniforms! When Shelley returned from her trip, she came and taught us a little about Kenya:

like how to dance and sing like a real Kenyan!Kenyan candy
She also taught us about the lifestyle and living conditions in Yimbo. Tanner was very taken aback that Kenyan kids did not have bathing suits- but still went swimming!

Swim Lessons...

This is our second round of swimming lessons this summer. It is so nice to not have to bribe anyone to get into the water this year. Although it did take Hunter a few bribes to stay in the water after he was in!

Enjoying the fruits of our labor...
We planted watermelon seeds in March, now we have a huge vine and one small watermelon! But, it was worth the wait!

BBQ with Cousins...
You gotta love it when all 13 Hoyal grandkids are together! (not that we've ever gotten a picture of all of them at the same time) We love to swim and eat and play with cousins at Grandma's house during the summer! Take a look at all these cute nieces and nephews...

Birthday Girl Brielle!

Hope you are all enjoying some of your summer favorites!
