Julie and I hosted a Renaissance Festival for our school group on Tuesday. It was a lot of work, but I think everyone had a good time, and hopefully learned something too! We started with a fun "Mixer" to encourage the kids to get to know each other while learning a bit about the Renaissance at the same time. Then we opened with our school song and school motto. Tanner was the lone brave boy to help lead the group in song! Good job Tan!
We were so lucky that we got Leonardo da Vinci to come to teach the kids about his life and works, complete with Italian accent and everything! So nice of him to come all the way from 500 years ago! He was so kind to give each of the kids either a whirly-gig or airplane to help them remember his desire to one day fly. It was so fun to have Leonardo at our Renaissance Festival!
Leo brought "intelligence sticks" for kids who answered questions correctly. Maddy got to help pass them out! Lots of intelligent kids in this group!
After we visited with Leonardo for awhile, we ate his favorite meal for lunch, minestrone soup. Then, the kids participated in activities dealing with Leonardo or the Renaissance. We learned a Reanissance dance,
dissected a worm,
sketched an x-ray of our foot, learned mirror writing, traced our bodies and put pictures of our organs inside (anatomy),
and learned a bit about Gutenberg's printing press by using rubber stamps to copy one of his quotes.

It was a fun, exhausting day and I am so glad my big event for the year is already over! I am also so grateful to have Julie as a friend who is so easy to work with and for the Chavez' to allow us to take over their beautiful backyard for a day, and for a wonderful school group filled with talented, dependable moms and sweet, fun kids!
