Possessors of the Land, Opening Day

Our next unit for school is all about Colonial Life-how the Colonist lived, their chores, what the children did, what they ate, etc, etc.  Who better to introduce this topic to us then one of the most famous Colonial women, Abigail Adams!

I think these two might be her secret service agents...

She spoke about her life, and then we rotated to four different stations, practicing some kind of domestic Colonial skill.

We made whirly-gigs and played Colonial games like ring toss...

We did some laundry and made butter....

Doing the butter dance to shake their butter...

We made a typical colonial art:  The Art of Papyrotamia, no picture yet, it was too windy for us to finish this project!

And made alphabet samplers...

These two are good little Colonial children finding sticks to play with...

Yum, gingerbread and apple cider, a perfect Colonial Treat!

It was really windy, which made things a bit more difficult, but we still had a fabulous time and learned a lot!
